Date of inspection: 3 February 2026 to 17 February 2026. Victoria Mews is registered to provide accommodation and personal care for up to 30 people all of whom were receiving regulated activities at the time of inspection. This inspection was completed because we had not inspected this service since 29 October 2020. The inspection covered all 5 key questions of safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led. The service continued to provide a good quality of care, with consistent strengths across all key questions. People told us they felt safe, well cared for, and treated with kindness and dignity and we observed warm and respectful interactions that supported people’s independence, choice and control. Safety was managed effectively. Staff understood safeguarding, raised concerns appropriately and used incident information to learn and improve. Risks were assessed and managed in a person‑centred way, and the environment was clean, well maintained and supportive of orientation. Staffing levels, recruitment and training ensured staff were skilled and confident in their roles. Care was effective and based on current evidence. Assessments were thorough and regularly reviewed, with people and relatives fully involved. Staff worked well with external professionals to ensure timely healthcare support. People had choice in food, routines and activities, and meaningful engagement enhancing wellbeing. The service was responsive to people’s individual needs, background and preferences. Feedback from people and relatives was acted on, including changes to activities. Information was available in accessible in formats, and systems supported continuity of care and equitable access to support. Leadership at Victoria Mews was strong and inclusive. The registered manager was praised by staff for their supportive and proactive approach. Staff described positive teamwork and open culture where they felt valued and able to speak up. Governance systems were well established and effective, with audits, action plans and learning from incidents supporting ongoing improvement. Overall, Victoria Mews provides a caring, safe and well‑managed environment where people experienced positive outcomes and a consistently high quality of life.
People consistently described Victoria Mews as safe, respectful and caring. They said staff were kind, compassionate and took time to listen and offer reassurance. Relatives were confident in the care provided and felt their family members were treated with dignity. People experienced choice and independence in daily routines, including when to get up, go to bed and how they spent their day. Staff understood people’s preferred ways of communicating and adapted their approach to ensure individuals felt heard and supported. One person said, ‘I’m more than happy here, it’s the people and how they treat you.’ Staff responded promptly to call bells and changes in people’s health or wellbeing. Mealtimes and activities were positive experiences, with staff offering patient and attentive support. Activities were tailored to people’s interests, and adjustments were made based on feedback and engagement. Communication with relative was strong. Residents’ meetings were held regularly, and people felt their views were listened to and acted upon. The registered manager was visible and approachable, contributing to people feeling valued and involved. Overall, feedback from people, relatives and professionals showed a caring atmosphere, strong relationships and a service that promoted dignity, choice, independence and emotional wellbeing.
