Our view of the service

Date of assessment 15 July 2025 to 18 August 2025 Beeches Care Home is a care home providing personal and nursing care for up to 64 people. At the time of this assessment there were 38 people who were using the service. The service provides care for older people, some of whom are living with a dementia. At the last inspection in September 2022, we rated the home requires improvement with recommendations for improvement in medicine management and involving people in decisions about their care. At this assessment we found improvements had been made. We have rated the home good. Staff responsible for the administration of medicines had received training. People received their medicines safely. We gathered information from people who used the service, relatives, the management team and staff and health and social care partners. People and relatives were positive about the care and support provided. They spoke positively about the staff team. A training matrix was in place to help identify when training was due. Staff Training was taking place at the time of this assessment. Records of incidents and accidents were completed and the registered manager reviewed these to identify any themes or trends. Consent documentation was in place and staff knew what process to follow with obtaining consent. However, further development was needed with documenting best interest decisions. Staff were aware of how to manage risk, but some care documents lacked detail. Refurbishment had taken place on the new palliative care unit and some other areas of the home had been redecorated. The provider had a refurbishment plan in place which covered areas of the service that were yet to benefit from refurbishment. This included bedrooms and communal areas. The registered manager had implemented changes to the governance systems, so they had oversight of the service. The management team worked well with visiting health and social care professionals and any safeguarding concerns were managed effectively. Staff said managers were approachable, supportive and listened to them. Managers worked closely with colleagues and people who used the service to ensure care standards met desired expectations.

People's experience of this service

People told us they were happy with the care and support they received. One person said, “I think I feel safer here than being at home on my own. The lasses have a lot to do but they always have time to talk to me.” Another person told us, “The staff are really good and very patient with me.” People spoke positively about the registered manager. One person told us, “I would go to [registered manager] if I had any complaint, he has an open-door policy. Since [registered manager] came things have changed for the better and he gets things done.” Another person told us, “The manager is very visible.” People felt safe and their human rights were fully promoted. They were encouraged to make decisions. People told us they were listened to and consulted around how their care and support should be provided. People said staff were competent and knowledgeable. People felt able to complain and were confident action would be taken, and improvements would be made. Relatives also spoke positively about the care and support received. One relative said, “I feel [person] is safe here, I feel welcome when I visit. I think [person] is well supported. “Another relative said, “[Person] likes it here [person] is safe. The staff are amazing [person] gets all the support they need always plenty of staff and always lovely with [them].” People and relatives told us they had access to health care. One person said, “The district nurse comes out to see me. I’ve been taking a lot of pain killers at the moment, and the staff always bring them.” Another person said, “I get all the healthcare I need. I am very well looked after.”
