Date of Assessment: 03 to 12 June 2025. This assessment was completed to check necessary improvements had been made to address the issues identified during our previous assessment. Following that assessment, we took enforcement action to address breaches of the regulations relating to person centred care, safeguarding, governance and staffing. We assessed all quality statements under 2 key questions; Safe and Well-led. The service is a care home providing support for to up to 30 predominantly older people. At the time of our assessment 14 people were using the service. At this assessment we found the service had significantly improved and all breaches of the regulation had been addressed. People were now protected from abuse and staff provided appropriate care that met people’s needs. The provider’s policies in relation to restraint had been updated and staff were no longer using unplanned restraint. Although occupancy levels had reduced since our last assessment, night staffing levels had been increased. This meant the service was overstaffed giving staff time to spend with people on an individual basis. The provider had made significant changes to governance systems to drive improvement in performance and people’s safety. Senior managers visited the service regularly and staff now had confidence any safety concerns they reported would be addressed. Staff were now treated fairly and worked effectively as a team to meet people’s needs. Where issues impacted on staff morale they were promptly addressed. The provider’s disciplinary processes were effective.
People were protected from abuse and staff now had the skills necessary to meet their needs. When incidents occurred they were full investigated. Any learning points were identified and changes made, where possible, to improve people’s experiences. People were relaxed and comfortable in the service and staff responded immediately to any requests for assistance. People’s comments included, “ The change in staff has been good, now staff do a good job”, “They do come if I press the buzzer” and “You couldn’t come anywhere better in my opinion, I have nothing but praise for the care here.” The staff team was now effectively managed and ensured people’s privacy and dignity was protected. Staff offered support with compassion and respected people’s wishes. Restraint was no longer used and we observed staff supporting people kindly to manage their anxiety. Professionals said, “It appears that care is more person centred, and the overall attitude of the staff is more positive and they are engaging with the residents”. People recognised there had been significant improvements in the service’s performance since the last assessment and were now complimentary of the care and support they received. People told us, “I have recommended the home to my friends, the staff have helped me considerably”, “Staff are helpful, and pleasant, and they know what they’re doing” and “You’re treated like you’d want to be treated. There’s something for everyone”.
