Inspection activity took place between 21 February and 6 March with a site visit on 26 and 27 February 2025. Grosvenor Lodge is a residential care home providing accommodation and personal care for up to 31 people over the age of 65. There were 27 people living at the home on the day of inspection. Some people had specialist needs associated with dementia. This inspection was carried out due to previous breaches and age of rating. On our visit we found enough improvements had been made, and the provider was no longer in breach of any regulations. There were good systems and audits in place and there was a good oversight over the service, the managers were both capable and knowledgeable about the service and the people living there. Staff knew people's care needs and how best to support them, feedback from staff and relatives evidenced this. All feedback from people and relatives was positive about staff kindness and the rapport people had with the staff. The managers worked hard to ensure that staff retention was good, and staff enjoyed their jobs, some had worked at Grosvenor Lodge for many years. Staff told us how they felt valued and supported by the management team. Time and attention had been given to ensuring people's interests were catered for, developed and explored. For example, people went on trips that were tailored to their interests such as swimming or to the local airport. Staff had a good level of understanding of how to keep people safe and supported people to take positive risks.
People and their relatives all spoke highly of the management of the service and the care that was delivered by the staff. Comments included: “The staff are very good. I have observed their interactions with residents, they know how to interact with people with dementia.” And: “This is fantastic here. I’m really reassured in my head that this is a safe place to be.” People and relatives told us how they were involved in decision around their care and support. One relative told us: “I am involved in discussions about care, the staff are so lovely and caring.” The home had good links with the local community, and this supported people to maintain their health and well-being. People’s care plans were very personalised and reflected their needs but also their interests, aspirations and what was important to them. Staff were observed having meaningful conversations with people. People and their relatives told us they felt safe, the staff were very caring, the managers were always approachable and that they were very happy with the care provided at Grosvenor Lodge. People’s comments about the activities included: “I have been out a few times on the electric bike.” And “It was the best party I have ever been to! Everyone got dressed up, it was packed in here! Amazing!”
