Our view of the service

Date of assessment 27 November to 19 December 2025. The service supports older people, including people living with dementia. At the time of the assessment there were 42 people living at the service. We assessed the service due to concerns raised about end-of-life care, staff training and dignity and respect. We completed a comprehensive assessment, looking at all 33 quality statements. Medicines were not managed safely. One person had been receiving medicines covertly unnecessarily for approximately one month, and leaders had not identified this error. Additionally, one person’s Medicine Administration Record stated they had medicine allergies but there was no further information about which medicines the person was allergic to. Records did not always demonstrate people received their medicines as prescribed and records were not always clear to enable medicines to be administered safely. Governance systems, such as audits, had not been effective in relation to the oversight of medicines. However, staff had received an appropriate level of training to meet people’s needs. Staff supported people kindly and with compassion, and people appeared comfortable around staff. People’s care plans contained information about how they liked to be supported. The service was clean and well maintained. There were clear policies and procedures to guide staff to work safely. We identified a breach of the legal regulation in relation to safe care and treatment regarding the medicine administration systems.
